The Hobie racing calendar is off and running in 2011.
The Hobie Australian Hobie Championships has attracted the podium of the last Hobie 16 World Championships, current World Champions, former World Hobie Champions and past and present Australian Champions, European, Hong Kong, New Caledonian and Fijian all joining the party. Look at the new red hulls from Hobie Cat Australasia. They are are attracting a lot of attention from the sailors and all positive! Check out the web site blog for all the updates as the racing is on till the 5th January.
In November Thai brothers Damrongsak and Kitsada Vongtim won the Asian Games in Shanwai, China. The Asian Games are the second largest sporting event behind the summer Olympics. In December they retained their Asian Beach Games Gold Medal in Oman. Veteran Hobie 16 sailor Tong Shing finished with silver and Thailand rounded out a good regatta with a third place.
The 10th All-Africa Games will take place on September 3 - 18th, 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique. Maputo's hosting will be only the third time the games will have been held in the southern part of the continent. The Hobie 16 is again the boat chosen in the multihull discipline. Please contact the IHCA or Mark Kopel (RSA) as we would like to get as many eligible countries to compete.
