Looking at Hobies

First post here. Very nice forum.

Right now I have 2 Malibu X Factors and they are up for sale as I want a Hobie. Question though. I like to stand and fish alot as I fish the marsh here in Louisiana alot for redfish. I am interested in the Hobie as they are better built in my book and I want to expand my areas for more tournaments. I know the Adventure and Revo will be tough to stand and fish must less a flyrod. What about the Outback? How is this boat on speed compared to the others? I also heard to not plan on paddling it at all. Right now I want the Adventure and will just get something else to stand in if need be but if the Outback is nice I may go that route. Thanks

You COULD stand in all of them, but I would only cast out of the Outback. The OB is really wide for a yak though so its quite a bit slower than the other two. Your best bet may be a Revo or Adventure that you can paddle if need be, and then install some sidekicks / outriggers for stability. This will give you a sleek, fast craft for traveling on the water, and then once you get there and want to stand and fish, you can extend the sidekicks for stability and go to town.

There are a list of differences between the Revo and Adventure, but I won't go into all of them. Basically the Advunture is a little quicker and the cockpit is a little roomier. The Revo is a little more stable and has a much better turning radius (ie you take out the paddle for turning around a lot more with the Adventure).

BTW, I've owned / fished all three (don't have the OB anymore). The Revo is really tough to beat unless you travel several miles per trip or are in rougher water in which case the Adventure starts to pull ahead.

There are three other accessories that IMO, really bring out the potential in all the boats: 1) large (sailing) rudder at $23 is the best bargain -- really adds lots of rudder authority, at low speeds (especially with the Adventure); 2) Turbofins (although ST fins aren't bad either) for better acceleration, higher speeds; 3) Scupper cart. this allows you to throw all your gear in the boat and wheel it right in the water for fast launching, easy portage.
