New Hobie Seat Pad

Matt. Why would you suggest to keep seat drain plugs screwed in. How is water suppose to drain out of the seat well. More importantly, how thick is the icomfort pad and can two inflatable pads be stacked.

Yeah I'd be curious to hear a follow up from Matt/Hobie rep about his suggestion to keep the seat area drain plugs in... I find that overall I have less water in the seat area when I leave them out.

Recently I have seen some comments on the forum about people adding one way scuppers to the seat area drain plug holes. It sounded like they canabilized the one way valves from a hand pump. Any chance Hobie is thinking of offering some kind of similar item that would work as a one way drain valve?

The new seat is really great, but I will give a word of warning ... ours came with no instructions on how to install, so I simply installed it under the original seat pad since it was easiest to do - just simply push the seat pegs through and you're done. Well it worked great, felt so nice for about an hour and then it leaked flat and would no longer hold air. Later examination revealed a hole in the middle of the top, right under the place where a brass grommet is installed in the underside of the existing seat (this is on a 2012 Revo 11). Apparently the grommet somehow pinched or wore through the inflatable seat causing the hole. I haven't tried yet but I doubt it would be covered under warranty since it isn't a seam leak. Pretty expensive for 1 hour's use.

So take a lesson from me, install it ABOVE the existing seat!

I believe it's meant to REPLACE the existing seat bottom. IMO, using it in conjunction with the stock seat bottom reduces stability (by raising your center of gravity) while adding no additional comfort.

I stack the seats with the inflated pad on the bottom and don't feel it has changed my center of gravity but I only use mine just slightly inflated. I also recognized the potential harm from the center grommet which I covered with a piece of adhesive neoprene with a small vent hole and have no signs of wear after a season of use. While the inflatable pad is comfortable I don't think it is as good looking as the original equipment and therefore it goes in the bottom postion on my Outback!
