I have been surfing a Hobie Maui this summer. It’s another fun thing to do on a kayak and great exercise too. I have wanted to get some video... this morning, I did it. We have a pencil cam that I can strap on a hat (head cam) and wear a video camera in a small backpack. Well, the camera’s attachment Velcro gave way after the second wave, so this was pretty much a cigar cam!

Anyway, for your entertainment:

I plan to shoot more video of other models soon. Different angles too. One of our engineers has been surfing the Mirage Sport (Same basic shape as the Lanai and I know that works well in the surf). He doesn't use the paddle at all and says the rudder works great in the surf. Next time!

Very cool video, Matt! Look forward to more in the future featuring other models including Mirage Drive kayaks. BTW, was that the Encinitas power plant in the background?

Pretty cool, Matt, but where is that no-handed kayak air?

That is the plant just south of Tamarack in Carlsbad... (California of course). Warmwaters is just south of the outflow. There is a nice, and forgiving, peak off the south jetty. Usually an open shoulder and a bit soft.

Looks like you had a great time Matt!
All you need are some thigh straps to give you more control especially when cutting through the waves :P
Keep having fun man!
