Matt,
Is the cart keeper available as a spare part and if so what is the part number?
I'd like to upgrade my older cart with this very useful improvement. :)

I wouldn't mind knowing this too.
Stringy - as you know, I have just bought the new cart with the big beach wheels and it included the Cart Keepers. You mentioned that they only seem to fit correctly in one particular position but I can't get them to fit properly in any position. (The load is not evenly distributed)I wonder whether they are designed for the TI hull rather than the AI :roll: I rather doubt it.

The cart keeper is the pin at the top of one of the posts. It keeps the cart in place if the wheels are off the ground.
Sounds like you are having problems with the cart clamps that support the hull. Unfortunately you are right in that they don't distribute the load evenly. There are high points that take all the load because the clamps aren't flexible. This is normal and probably OK but if you add half a sponge rubber ball it is easily fixed. :)
(This clamp is inverted to provide more surface area, but not really necessary)

The clamps are an improvement but it's a shame Hobie didn't add a foam top to the clamp that moulds to the hull shape.

Thanks Stringy - yes I was confusing the pin (keeper) with the clamps.
Guess I'll have to get myself a ball & cut it in two :roll:

Note: The rounded end of the cart clamp goes up on the cart.

If you were to loose a pin we can replace it, but we are not (yet) offering the system as an add-on accessory.

My problem has been that the pin doesn't stay in the molded plastic cap. I've Gorrilla Glued it back into the cap several times but it seems to pop loose randomly. It's not Hobies fault as it seems to pop loose when I raise the back end and let the wheels drop out from under the cart when unloading by myself. It's a real pain though! The shock cord hasn't come undone yet. Just the pin pops out.

I was lucky that the pin stayed in the tube. It came out when I shook it a bit upside down.

I squirted a bit of Marine Goop into the dome top and then tapped the pin all the way in with a small hammer. I then added a tiny ring of glue around the pin for good measure. So far, so good.

On the spacer/clamp slipping issue, I simply cut a short (about 1ΒΌ") piece of PVC pipe that just fits the cart tube and put it under the clamp. Perma-fix. Don't make the PVC too long, or you won't be able to use the cart keeper pin.

Edit to add: If you don't have the cart keeper on your cart, mark and drill one leg of the cart, then make a pin out of any thick wire. There's little weight on it, so even a clothes hanger wire would work. Tie the pin to the boat with a short leash to keep it handy when not in use.

the bungee has come loose from the pin. can't figure out how to grab it and reattach. any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you invert the cart so the bungee is now hanging down inside the tube and reach inside the tube with a pair of hemostats, you should be able to clamp onto the bungee cord or use a solid wire....say AWG-14 and bend the end (about 1/4") 90 degrees so you can "stab" the side of the bungee and pull it out of the tube.

Here's another way.

1. Remove the bottom cap and bungee

2. Drop a string down from the top of the cart

3. Tie it to the bungee and pull the bungee through the cart; reinstall the bottom cap

4. Clamp the bungee at the top of the cart leg and release the string

5. Using Loctite or epoxy on the pin, cap and bungee, install the bungee tip in the cap and tap in the pin so that it is fully seated

6. Remove the clamp when the assembly dries. 8)

This post is awesome and showed me what I needed to repair a snapped bungee between the cap and pin. Thank you!
