Went to Lake Arlington yesterday afternoon to peddle/paddle the new 16 ft Hobie Adventure with the mirage drive. I was the only boat on the lake as they have the ramps closed due to the low water. The peddle drive was very easy to use and cruise at 3 to 4 mph as measured with a GPS. The maximum speed I was able to get was 6.9 mph on a quick sprint, but with the torque you can peddle about 4 or 5 times and hit over 4 mph.
It was very different as I peddled about 3/4 miles to the rock dam and fished with the 12 to 15 mile wind at my back. I could hold position off the dam and fly fish by slowly peddling and making minor adjustments to the rudder with the left hand. I was surprised that I didn't get too close to the dam as the mirage drive and rudder allowed me to slowly drift and fish. With the WS Ride kayak I would never have been able to fish and hold position with the paddle. The waves did start to white cap and I took some water over the bow a few times on the way back.
I think I'm going to like this Kayak!
