Steering lock in right turn... Problem: Steering handle "crank" inside hull bypasses a stop and can get hung up. Solution: A slight bend in the crank (stainless steel plate) can make it correctly contact the stop. This can be done by hand, in the field. All boats on our assembly line were reviewed and worked correctly. The assembly line has been reminded to check this adjustment. Matt can you please post some pics of what you mean? Also how to you bend a stainless steel plate "by hand" ? Is it that thin? TIA Dan |

Matt I went to the support section cause I thought Hobie Mirage rudder line replacement PDF (114 KB) might show something. Please advise your web person the pointer from there does not work. You get the Mirage Drive PDF instead. I'm sure it's easily corrected. |

I don't have pictures yet, but the plate is flat and can be bent a little by hand. As the plate rotates around it should contact the stop inside the hull. If tweaked a little, it slips over the stop and can get behind it. We have just one report of this. |

The engineer that is working on it said it was almost ready. They went so far as to cut up dfferent model boats to show the system inside clearly for each one. I would hope this week for sure. |

I now have my replacement hull as result of the cracks (which I very much appreciated the service from Hobie) but the rudder on the new hull performes exactly like the original - it wont budge when seated in the groove. 2 out of 2 must say something about its design (actually make the 3 out of 3 as another in the dealer I tried had the same problem). I am beginning to find it very hard to believe that this is an isolated problem!!! ...I really am trying to be patient and accommodating...enough said. |
