Post subject:  buying the newest version of the Adventure

There have been several improvements made on the big A since October; the bigger rudder, improved storage hatches, turbo fins for the mirage drive, and the stowable rudder system, and maybe some other smaller changes. I would like to buy an Adventure, but would like to ensure I get one with these modifications.

Is there a dealer out there that can do that. I have tried several suprisingly with no success. They want to sell their older stock.

We live on a lake and are looking forward to peddaling/paddling/sailing the Adventure.

Yes! I just bought my new Adventure a couple of weeks ago from Kayak Fishing Stuff (KFS) in New Jersey and received all the new things you mentioned. They have free shipping on the Adventure and I received it at my door in great condition.

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. Obviously you have been doing your homework! There have been some changes, yet some of the items you mentioned are extra cost options.

First the changes: The hatches have changed and are in current production. They're easy to spot because they have one twist top (instead of two) and are hinged. The Twist & Stow rudder system has always been part of the Adventure. There is a minor modication to the system (currently in production), that the dealer should be able to install if you need it. It is an internal part you cannot readily see. I think anything delivered with the new hatches will probably have the rudder mod. also.

Now for the options. The Adventure does not come standard with the "Large" rudder or the Turbo fins. The rudder may be ordered separately for about $23. The Turbo fins come in a separate kit and are not yet available (due any time). You may back order them (pn# 72065) for about $80. You can order these any time, but perhaps you can get a special package deal if you buy them with your boat!

As you probably know, there are two versions of the Adventure. Both boats and basic equipment are identical except for color choices. The Adventure "Fish" comes with some fishing accessories (anchor, cooler and towing wheels?) and costs about $100+/- more. Other options: sailing kit, daggerboard and a few other toys. 8)

Hi Chris and welcome.

I am almost sure everything you listed is an extra but the new hatches they come standard. Give KFS a call I have bought 2 kayaks from them over the last couple of seasons, you WILL NOT be disappointed. They are a top of the line shop with great service.
