Post subject:  How fat can a Mirage fishing kayak handle
:D Noted that Pearly38 lost 50 # using the Mirage nearly every day.

I'm looking at a fishing kayak and the Mirage system seems like a better workout for this old fat man (nearly 300# at 5'9" - sitting at a desk and computer for 12 hours a day too many years).

Is there someone out there who has been "in the same boat?"

I've tried other sit-on-top kayaks, and the seat well is not a good position -
lower back pain, no power to paddle, no back support. I've looked at the Drifter with the Drifter seat (3" rise) which is workable, but I'd like to use my legs for power, instead of soaking in the well....

Locate a Hobie dealer in your area and take a test run on several kayaks.

The Outback is really good with weight. We show a 400 lb capasity on it. It is pedal powered, comfortable and stable. I would suggest that model and then have you do a demo with a dealer to confirm.

Welcome Mister T...

I have suffered off and on over the years with lower back pain and I can tell you that I have not had a minute of back pain with my Outback...even using the standard issue Hobie seat. I do use a thick cushion as a Butt Pad...which I believe is a must for added comfort.

I think the trick is getting the seat angle adjusted properly for good lower back support.

Again, it's not been an issue for me...even after 6 hours or more in the saddle chasin' redfish! Good Luck!

:) Just placed an order for a Outback SUV
got to sit in one while in Florida this weekend.
hopefully after judicious use, the weight thing will become less of an issue
