PDX - now that will have been a big fish not the mincey little "big" fish that so easily exposed my lack of technique 'Spect you got it on the Columbia did you? (went there windsurfing many years ago) and I understand that there are some pretty big fish in there (and in other waterways all up the Pacific coast I believe?). Anyway - soldering iron is the way to go if you want a near permanent fix - I haven't had to redo any of my repairs even after several years of regular hard use following the repairs and I still have 2 spare turbos that I bought to cover myself in case the repairs didn't work lying around the garage. |

I'll back up stobbo on the solder iron repair method. I've poked holes in my fins a couple of times. A little time with a solder iron fixed them both times. |

The one that cut my fin was a 7'9" sturgeon. It was out of the Willamette (which dumps into the Columbia, the fish move back and forth). The last big one I caught I think was at least as long (powerboat guy estimated 8' based upon my kayak) and was a lot bigger around. I hope the my Gorilla tape lasts forever, but if not I will break out the soldering iron. Thanks again for a great tip! |

That is a good try stobbo. You know I think I have probably caught the two biggest freshwater fish ever caught from a kayak. One of them cut me but the other completely bowed down to me. Kind of cool that Hobie has this record. I must say that even with my cut fin my outback still handled awesomely. I can't wait to whip a 10 footer. |
