Hi JJ,
I did a wee bit more than that. You might remember the old rudderman's axium, "get the maximum control with the minimum size" -- I thought the Hobie large rudder might be a bit of overkill. What you see in the picture below is the best of several attempts to improve upon a couple of side effects of the large rudder -- 1) a bit heavy for the Stow&Go system and 2) awkward stowed position.
So this is the result: a little narrower, lighter, little less drag, and nearly the same awsome job as the Hobie Sailing rudder. The small portion clipped off the bottom, as you can see, didn't amount to all that much. (This rudder has not been sailing yet, so the jury is still out on its final evaluation).
And, most importantly, it matches the theme of the Turbofins!
