I finally got a chance to get to know my SUV. Had a week at Lake Kerr in VA and was able to paddle and peddle around afor an hour or two most days.

Had a week at Lake Kerr in VA and was able to paddle and peddle around for an hour every day.

I was able to try my SUV out a day here and a day there this spring but this was the first time I could do back to back days. I bought it so that I could get some exercise at the lake and enjoy the scenery up close and it has lived up to those expectations.

And for a bonus I was able to get to within about 50 feet of a mature bald eagle today. I think we now have a breading pair in my cove…..

Not having paddled in years and only then an occasional canoe trip I was surprised that I could build my stamina up to 45 minutes of paddling in a few days. I balance about 45 mins of paddling and 45 mins of peddling. So I/m ready to go back next weekend and get 2+ hours in each day.

A few questions

1) Can anyone recommend a good but not too expensive pair of kayak gloves? My hands would really appreciate it!
2) Other than the risk of theft is there any reason not to leave the hull in the fresh water over the summer. It’s a long walk to my storage area and the elevation is a bit steep for one person to carry (multiple stairs, can’t use the cart). I can clean it every two weeks or so of algae. By the way – it’s the yellow version.
3) Can you recommend a water proof GMRS radio? My wife swamped me with the jet ski and my Motorola is DOA.
4) How should I protect my digital camera? I’d love to go out and capture some of the scenery with it?

Thinks I love about my SUV

1) it is quiet when I use the peddles
2) its easy to get into from the dock
3) its fun
4) my kids even love it

Things not so great about the SUV
1) can’t think of anything at this point

ery up close and it has lived up to that expectation.

Not having paddled in years and only then an occasional canoe trip I was surprised that I could build my stamana

Congratulations on your purchase -- a great choice! Your hands will quickly adapt and you won't need the expense of gloves. When they get sore, it's time to pedal!

The boat can take on a small amount of water, especially if your wife keeps swamping you. It might be better to store in on the dock or lock it up to the bottom of your stairs. You can make sure the hull is dry when you pull it out.

You can store it (and your new radio) in a zip lock bag until you're ready to use it. Or just go out when your wife's ashore! 8)
