Post subject:  ticking fixed with WD40

My drive would tick when in the water but not when I pulled it out to see what the cause was. I hosed the snot out of every metal part (chains, front adn rear of the various axles (hoping capillary action would do its thing), and the sprockets) with WD40. The tick went away. This has worked twice so far, and it seems that the tick only shows up when I neglect to WD40 for a while  . If I lube it up after every trip, there's no tick.

There is also a loud ticking sound from where the cable attaches to the first chainlink (at least when not freshly "WD40ied").

Press the "cablefitting" with your thumb so that it moves from side to side on the first chainlink and listen if you recognise the loud ticking sound from your pedaling.

I promise a kayak T shirt to the one who discovers the reason for the tick.
I wonder how many shirts you've passed out so far -- must be getting low on stock by now! This is a good time to get rid of those XXXL's.
