Post subject:  Hobie Bimini on a 2012 Mirage Oasis

I installed the Hobie Bimini on my 2012 Oasis a few weeks ago and have had it out several times. This is by no means an all inclusive review, it's more of a first impression sort of thing.

It works great. Easy install and fully adjustable to wherever you need shade.
It is sort of over-engineered (imho). The Pro-techt homepage shows some demo reviews that make it look a little wobbly. Mine is rock solid. I purchased it from Austin Kayak.

Yesterday I was using it while pedaling the Colorado River in Black Canyon, AZ. While going upstream, the winds were at least 20 m.p.h. to my back. I was surprised to find that I was being pushed up stream, against the current maybe 1 or 2 m.p.h. without pedaling. The problem came when I turned around. The winds got stronger and it tried to push me back up stream. It was a little to much so I folded it up, which only takes a few seconds.

It can be used as a sail in light winds, but anything stronger you should just get the Hobie Sail Kit :D

It is fully adjustable to any conceivable angle you need it, all while sittng in the cockpit. Just practice it a little so you know where the knobs are behind you.

It's a keeper. It is going to see many hot, sunny days here in Southern Nevada.

Here's some pics.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImagehttp://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/u377/EricVegas/101_2244.jpg?t=1333176678ImageImageImageImage

Can two bimini's be installed / has anyone done it?

I'm seriously thinking of getting an Oasis - and one added way to persuade the mrs to jump on would be some sun shade for her sitting up front.

Post subject:  Re:Eric, Great Pictures and a ? re the width of the mounting

We might go for one up front for my wife in our Oasis.

I would appreciated the width of the mounting bar.

That bar could be used to mount a lot of stuff from fish finders, GPS and maybe attach a Torqeedo Kayak 403 motor rather than depend on mounting the holding ball permanently in the plastic.

Thanks again.

Using the plug in cart wheels in the back like that makes it really heavy - move the wheels up to the middle plugs in front of the back seat - and the boat will balance, it's 100% more easy to wheel it using the forward scuppers

Nice set up Vegas Eric, I'm glad to see another Nevadian on here. I fish Willow beach alot. Huge stripers. Looks like you beached where the Hot springs is. Ive been fishing out of Goverment wash lately. I'll look out for the Bimini on a Oasis next time I'm Out at Willow.

Grampa Spey-The width of the base mount is 3 1/2".

Barraspalding-I don't know where you would mount it on the front of an Oasis. I saw one mounted on the side of an Old Town. It ran horizontal just above the water line. But I don't think I'd want to mount it there.

JBernier-Thx for the advice on the plug-in cart.

Bassman-It seems like I'm down at Willow Beach at least once a week (I'll be doing a Hoover Dam trip from Kingman Wash in the morning). I plan on getting an outback in about a week. So I hope to see you out there sometime.

Thanks Eric. If this base mount is sturdy enough to support a Bimini, it should be able to support many other items.

We did a similar installation with my colleague at Hobie Mirage Outback.

Great video johnnybravo. It really shows how easy it is to mount the bimini and sidekick amas. Thanks for posting!
