Post subject: | MirageDrive Maintenance Question |
I own an Outback that's about 6 years old. I'm a casual user, probably averaging 3-4 times/month overall. Recently, I've noticed more "play" and perhaps some noise in the drive unit. The lateral looseness is noticeable in the pedals during use. Out of the boat, I can also hold the drums and get a little lateral movement on the drum shaft, more on one side than the other. From the website schematics, it appears I have the V1 drums, if that matters. I also have the standard fins. My questions - 1) How much lateral movement, if any, of the drums on the drum shaft would be considered normal? 2) If fix is required/recommended, what's the fix? Is a user-fix or a trip to the dealer recommended? Thanks very much for your help. |

Probably just from loose chains - tighten them with a 7/16" wrench - it will tighten that slop back up. Check our Mirage Drive FAQ page for more help. viewforum.php?f=60 This is a simple DIY adjustment, not anything that a dealer needs to do for you. |

Thanks very much for your reply. The rear chain was looser than what was called for in the FAQ. Tightening that a little seemed to make a big difference. |
