What makes you think the 2012's will "go on sale"? My local dealer, where I bought my 2010 Oasis, after the 2011's came out did offer a $500 discount since the '11's had improvements. Original sticker price was $2,699 and I paid $2,199. The same dealer has a "left over" 2010 Oasis showing an original list price of $2,749 (sames as the 2012's) and discounted to $2,349 - $150 more than I paid for the same thing and now a 2+ year old yak! Who sets these prices - the dealer or Hobie?

My dealer has 4 2012 PA 12's left. It was implied that they will take the same price increase as what the 2013's took. Understand he will involke the price increase September 1st.

I also heard from one locally that will be advertising 2012 boats at the new $1899 retail price starting 9/1. If there are no significant changes, there's no real reason to discount since warranty starts at time of first purchase. Equally, there's no reason for dealers to rotate their demo boats if they aren't beat up as they are demonstrating the current model.

We bought our "new, out of the box" 2011 Oasis, this past summer (2012) and it came with a $500 discount. There are no changes between the 2011 and 2012 boats.

The dealer, not Hobie, sets the prices. Hobie lists the Manufacturers Recommended Sale Price, but the dealer is free to sell for whatever price they choose.

I thought the seat mounts were different on the '12's versus the '11's and older models. I was hoping for discounted prices on 2011 models when the '12's came out, but not at my dealer.

Officially, the dealer may set the price. Hobie does aggressively protect their brand value, though. It may be salesmanship, but I've spoken to over ten dealers within 100-150 miles of me. More than one have told me that they will lose access to the Hobie line if they discount.

I'm also sure, from looking at ads on Craigslist and eBay, and checking dealer websites, that different regions of the US operate on slightly different principles. I've seen ads for dealers in other parts of the country discounting 15-20% on leftover boats recently. In my area, they are holding the line or even selling 2012s at the 2013 price.

That could be. But there are no "significant" changes to the Oasis that would require a major price increase. Any price increase would have more to do with the cost of materials, labour etc, going up, not new features.

I don't think we're talking about price increases as much as we're talking about the absence of a discount for prior year boats. I believe the primary changes between 2011 and 2012 were the addition of the extra guide pin on the drive unit and the new seat mount mechanism. I haven't heard of any changes at all between 2012 and 2013 boats, so I would guess there's nothing too significant.

In 2012, I wouldn't have bought a 2011 boat if I could get a 2012 for the same price. Right now, I'm not sure there's any functional reason why a customer would care if their boat had a 2012 or 2013 serial number on it.

Of course, some models may have some changes and I am mostly familiar with the specs for the Revolution when I am talking about a lack of differences.

Are there any changes between this year's Revo 11 and the 2013?

Thanks

Yeah. I realize that now. Which brings me back to my first point. I was able to buy my 2011 Oasis for a $500 discount over the MSRP for the 2011 boat. Which, I believe worked out to over $500 difference between the 2011 and 2012 boat. But don't quote me on that.

Some dealers do discount to move old stock. If you're buying a boat, and there is no discount, buy the newest boat. The plastic does age, especially if it was left in the sun. Some dealers will leave boats on an exterior display all summer. If you don't get a discount, then you don't want that boat. I was able to get my 2011, in 2012, straight out of the box with a discount. I watched them unpack the boat myself. That was a good deal!
