Being a bicycle rider, I am curious. Could you use SPD (clip in) pedals on a Mirage drive? They are the same thread as regular bicycle pedals, you can put the cleats on sandals.

I don't have a Mirage drive kayak because I live in the ghetto.

I remember seeing a post from someone who had swapped the factory pedals with mountain bike clipons and matching outdoor clipon sandals, so in theory it should work. I have had some concerns that the road racing clips may not have enough float or may pop out in some instances, but these worries are probably misguided. I plan on trying this one of these days, since I did my last outing barefoot and my feet cramped up really bad after 6 hours, since the load was not properly distributed across the bottom of my feet.

Give it a try, and let me know how it works, and post pics :!:

You're a bicycle rider and don't have a Mirage drive??? The only solution is to move out of the ghetto and get one before you get run over!!!

I've got SPDs on my mountain bike, you can adjust them to unclip with very little effort, shouldn't be a problem. Straps on bicycles also caused cramping, with SPDs, it's not an issue. Biggest potential problem would be how well bicycle pedals hold up in saltwater. They make stainless steel and titanium versions, a pedal called "Egg Beaters" are popular.

This is the SoCal ghetto, where you need to make $40K a year just to be homeless.

You can replace the pedals on the older mirage drives, but not on the new ones, they are a press fit.

And that, as they say, is that.

I don't give up so easy  I looked at mine last night, and they are permanent, but I see two options  I could cut them off and ream the hole to standard 9/16", or I could replace the arms with older arms, if available somewhere. I would really like to use the Shimano sandal/pedal combo.

Bike pedal threads are a bit off beat. One side is right hand thread, one side is left hand thread. If you look at a set of pedals, you will see an "R" or an "L" on the pedal spline.
