Perhaps we need to retitle this thread the MACGRUBER thread, (or McGyver, if you don't know who MacGruber is).

While I think the Thule matt looks nice, I find a perverse joy in find something else that does the same job for a lot less.

MacGruber Question: What is it about the Thule matt that makes it slippery?

...and I'm still looking for a rail system that slides down off the back of my Jeep to the ground and I simply roll my kayak onto it, latch the yak to the rail, and lift then roll back onto the roof. A guy can dream.

Post subject:  Re: How about Rube Goldberg McGyver

I have posted before, becoming a 3 kayak owner has brought out my recessive  Rube Goldberg gene.

Recently, my Rube Goldberg gene has linked with my recessive McGyver gene.

My genetically modified Rube Goldberg McGyver gene is often very  beneficial. However, my wife insists on having the final approval on any Rube Goldberg McGyver  creations that are in her house or in plain view coming into our home or from any window or door. She allows me to RGM  in my office and my share of the laundry room where RGM stuff is often created or modified.

Often, she asks for help from my Rube Goldberg McGyver gene for emergency repairs and to make some store bought thing more useful.

Lately she is starting to show possible transfer of my  Rube Goldberg McGyver gene with her decorations, plants, garden and how she fixes or arranges them.

She is concerned that lately, I spend time at Home Depot and/or Ace looking to buy items that might become useful RGM adaptions/creations.

Rube Goldberg's genius machines made easy look hard.

McGyver makes hard look easy.

MacGruber makes both easy and hard look stupid.

Ipso Fatso: MacGruber > McGyver > Goldberg

I believe I have the MacGruber gene.

There's a test for which gene you have:

If you're married, your wife's eye-rolling means you're probably a MacGruber.
If you're single, your ex-wife has already told you which one you are.
If you've never been married, your jeans are in your mom's washer.

Post subject:  Re: The Wide Wheel CTug can be used as a Kayak Loader

Go to about 3:20 on the link below and look at some creative ways kayak owners/users are using their CTugs to load their yaks on a wide range of vehicle types.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0ijJCIu ... ontext-cha

I recently bought a Wide Hard Wheel CTug for our Oasis and my FH Pathfinder. Both are wide butt and fairly heavy yaks that seem to overpower many kayak carts/trailers.

So far in limited use, it seems to work. I haven't used it on sand which seems to be a problem.

I will be cutting a 2X4 equal to the width of the wheels on the axle to keep it from sliding or rolling during the kayak loading or unloading process.

The current wide hard wheel C Tug is being discontinued, and you can get a good discount at many dealers. I have a sneaky feeling that C Tug will come out with a large/wide pneumatic wheel like the one Hobie sells for sand and other area useage.

The Thule water slide discussed and shown in earlier replies might be an excellent choice to go with the C Tug to protect our vehicles, when the C Tug is used as a kayak lifter/roller/back saver.

I did!

15 bucks worth of PVC stuff and a couple of spring clips, a piece of closet pole, a piece of pool noodle, a piece of pipe and two ratchet tie downs, all stuff/scraps from my garage, and I have a fully functional roll-on loader!

1 1/4-inch PVC reinforced with the closet pole, a couple of Tees, a couple of 90-deg elbows, spring clips to hold the spreader in place and the pool noodle on the pipe roller, all secured to the roof-rack side rails with the ratchet tie-downs... piece of cake!
