what is this molded circular area in the rear cargo area of my Sport? cutting it out for a hatch might be a problem as the drainage grooves would feed water inside the yak unless lots of caulk used. |

Yes, that's what it's for. And a bit of Goop will indeed seal those low areas just fine. |

It will hold a 5 gallon bucket very easily. Never heard of anyone cutting it out for a hatch although it might work. |

It is designed for the 5 gallon bucket and adds stiffness to the deck. A hatch would block the drain channels. |

do you cut it out for the bucket or just put it on top? is this any 5-gal bucket or something special Hobie sells? don't understand how this adds stiffness? TIA. |

If you install a hatch there, any water in the drain channels will simply run around the hatch frame and out the scuppers as it did before. It won't cause any back up of water at all. |

Most 5 gallon buckets available from hardware/tackle stores are a standard size, the outlined area just gives a little bit of resistance for the bucket to stay in place, but the bucket should be bungeed down if you expect it to stay put anyway. |

OK, understand. never have seen anyone with a 5-gal bucket in their yak. just coolers, milk crates. |
