I expect it is and I'm too stupid to work it out!

Hi, I'm an aussie new to the forum and have just received delivery of my second hobie, have old old outback and excitedly now new revo, question...

so the rudder (twist and stow, much improvement on my old toy) has two problems possibly interconnected...

on the water the rudder obviously aint right, quick jaunt for test ride, pulls to one side a bit, turns awfully too sharp one way and sluggish the other. looking at it later it obviously pulls too far one side and lots less the other, problem extenuated by not being vertical when straight (probably bigger problem) , so "mate" (as aussies say, soon to be a crime with burden of proof onus reversed in our NANNY STATE, is that common in usa?)...

HOW DO I FIX IT? or do i need to get the nearest dealer (1800km approx 1200miles) away to help?

THIS IS A GENUINE CALL FOR HELP, fish are at stake and I'm reasonably handy with tools

Loosen the screws holding the steering lines to the rudder. Note that on the twist and stow one is connected to the arm and one is run through the drum. Just follow them out of the hull and you'll see what I mean.

Once the lines are loose, straighten the rudder. Now go up front and straighten the tiller handle. You may want to move it through its full range of travel first, to determine exactly where "straight" is. It may not necessarily be straight ahead. Set it halfway between its full range of travel.

Once both the rudder and tiller are straight, return to the rudder and tighten and fasten the lines. That should do it.

I find it helpful to then set the rudder straight again and use a Sharpie permanent market to outline the tiller handle so that I can tell at a glance when the rudder is straight.

On the not tracking where you want to go issue, did you "cleat" the rudder down pull per the instructions. If you dont cleat it you may find yourself going in circles.

One the turning part, it is identical to my issue here with the solution: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=45884:

Maybe if the yak came from USA, then the yak must be upside down in the water to work properly?

THIS IS A GENUINE ANSWER FOR NOT HELPING... Just kidding ya... good luck on the repairs.. Usually a very simple fix. There is good advise posted before me.

Before you start messing with cables make sure your rudder pin isn't broken.
