Has anyone out there experimented with reversing the drive unit and backtrolling for, say crappies and walleyes?

I have done it while pulling Flatfish for Stripers. Works remarkably well. Boat steers quite good in reverse.

Thanks, Tom

Have been using Hobies for 9 years, have had seven, still have three. Just picked up a new PA12. Backtrolled for walleyes often from my Lunds (which I sold after fishing with nothing but the Hobies for three years, but for some reason, just never occured to me with my Hobies. DUH! Maybe too obvious.
Will troll two lines left in Cabelas Fast Draw rod holders with Gulp leeches (deadly), and hold rod in right, finger on trigger with crankbait like Wally Diver, steer with left.

Anyone else out there with comments or experience?

I had the same results and it works good. Its especially nice if there is a cold wind blowing. Turn your back to the wind and fish wind blown points too. You will be suprised how well it works for fishing the wind blown points without working yourself to death.

And as we know, wind-blown points are where it is at many times. Backtrolling is going to make for much better presentations. What do you pull?

I am a fan of plastic worms. In our case we have a good popluation of walleye too. I use a Berkley Flicker Shad alot with good results on those same points for both bass and walleye.
I am going to the river on the way home today. Its windy but near 55 degrees. Possibly catch a fish or 2.
