Hey everyone I'm new here. Been lookin at maraige drives for awhile. I ready to buy.
My wife and I want a tandem that we can putt around the local lakes I. And sometimes take out in the bay. And maybe once a year take on a kayak in camp trip.
I am attracted to the weight capacity and the speed of the oasis. But the stability and easier storage and transporting of the outfitter seems like it will give me more benefit.
I'm 250lbs and the wife is 125. The dog is 20

What do you guys think?

Also I have the chance to buy brand new 2007 models cheap. are there any reasons not to buy those old ones? What are the differences in these older ones?
I figure it base to worth saving a $1000 to buy a new old unit.

The store also tells me they have a special green fisher model outfitter or somthing that came with a bunch of fishing accessories. I dont fish but that sounded cool

Please help.

If it was me (and you're not me) I'd buy the 2011 or newer Oasis. It's a far better boat on the water, it's no tougher to transport (a few pounds and inches don't make it any more or less difficult in reality) and it has better capacity.

Hobie doesn't release their numbers, but I'm sure that the Oasis outsells the Outfitter by a wide margin. It wouldn't surprise me if the Outfitter wasn't redesigned and was quietly retired. Back in the day, Hobie had an Oasis and an Outfitter as their only tandem Mirage drive kayaks. Now they have added the Tandem Island. I can't see what the Outfitter gives you that the Oasis doesn't. But the Oasis gives you a lot that the Outfitter doesn't.

Being 250lbs, expect to have a wet rear end almost every outing. It's not fun, even on the warmest of days. Please consider the Oasis.

I agree with augaug.

Additionally, you may want to consider weight capacity:

Outfitter capacity= 425lbs
Oasis capacity= 550
Crew (sans gear, food, and water)= 395lbs

Water, beer, and ice alone can add ~10-15lbs

The Outfitter does not leave you a lot of wiggle room for additional weight (although I hear the Hobies can hold a lot more than their stated capacity, but why take a chance)

I have the 2008 and it seems there were some significant improvements to the hull and rudder system post 2008. Given that we use the solo kayaks more than the tandem, I can't speak to the true difference in performance/comfort of those improvements.
I can say that the hull of the newer Oasis seems more rigid and streamlined. My hull is smooth, very flat, and very flexible. Momentum dies very quickly when one stops pedaling.

I would certainly like to hear what others think of the new and old models.
