Hello All, I recently added a sail kit and side kicks to my 2010 revolution. I was considering adding a cross bar to my adventure so I could use the sail on it. when I was looking at the new accessary catalog I see right above the cross bar a part called an adventure adapter plate. I can't seem to find a picture of this part so I don;t know what it is. Is this something I need? Also, do I need to purchase a daggerboard for running the small sail on a adventure. Thank you for your help. |

The Adventure adapter plate is just something to add a Sidekick onto an Adventure hull using the existing inserts designed for the Island kit rather than drilling holes to attach the hardware like you did on your Revo You can't use a Dagger board on any other model but the Adventure - it isn't compatible with any other model, but would help nicely on the Adventure you own. If you want to take your Sidekick and put it on a 2nd hull - you need the center crossbar and hardware so that you can easily transfer the kit between 2 kayaks - it's part # 72062062 |

I think there are adapters so that you don't have to drill holes in an adventure to mount the sidekick crossbar. It simply uses the existing holes (and perhaps the screws) that are already predrilled where the amas and akas would attach if you converted it to an Adventure Island. |

jbernier - would it affect the sailing performance in any way to mount the sidekicks in front of the kayaker rather than behind the seat? I thought it might help with stability to mount them forward of the kayaker, closer to the sail, when a gust of wind hits the little sail kit and causes it to heel over. Also, might make it more stable when moving forward on the kayak. Thoughts? |

It makes no difference - forward or behind - they still provide the same amount stability - just might get in the way of paddling stroke... so just be aware of that. |

Thank you all for the help. I installed the crossbar and am ready to go. I still don't know for sure if I need a daggerboard for the adventure with a small sail. |

You should (will) find that the daggerboard transforms your boat's upwind sailing performance. I qualify my normal "will" to a "should" because I don't personally use any outriggers, but on my boat (Adventure Island hull only) the difference that the daggerboard makes upwind (and w.r.t downwind stability) is huge. The boat will point much more into the wind when sailing, which is the perennial issue for every sailing vessel - how do you get the thing to sail upwind?! - and the stability feels better in that it feels less tippy generally with the extra weight of the mast aloft and you probably get a bit more time to react to the threat of a capsize... both useful factors if you sail without outriggers. |

Thank you Stobbo, I've read many of your post and know that you are very knowledgable on these things. I have one of the best hobie dealers in the world here with Fastlane sailing center so I'll just head on down there and pick one up. Thanks again. |
