Post subject:  Very Sad new Hobie owner
I finally purchased a Kayak after much searching. I went with the Hobie Quest 13, purchased a new one, labeled as "non current model year". Okay, it was a few years old, it looked pristine, no visible scratches or anything. Put the new boat in the water and after an hour had about half gallon of water inside. I checked the boat out carefully, and it has serious defects in the scupper tubes. I can see daylight coming through the tube with my head in the front hatch, looking at the top of the scupper tube.
I bought this at Ballard Inflatables this past weekend, June 29th, 2013.
This dealer will not do anything, they claim it's my bad luck. I have a brand new boat that leaks like a sieve, and is not safe to use.
Will Hobie honor the warranty? Is "2 years" from data of purchase, or "2 years" since manufacturing?
The serial number is CMMR0409J405
The dealer also stated they didn't know the exact year.

If no warranty, can this be repaired? I feel completely screwed, and think I should have gone with the Ocean Kayak Trident.
I want to be a Hobie owner, but it's not looking good at this point.

Warranty runs two years from the date of purchase.

That is a pretty old boat to have been, just now, sold as new... certainly odd.

Scuppers were an issue with some older models and is totally repairable. Likely warranty will have the boat shipped here and repaired, but ask the dealer to file a claim.

I spoke with Brendan/Brandan (?) in warranty a bit ago. He indicated that the issue was repairable, and that Ballard Inflatables, where I bought this, was no longer a dealer for HC.
I sent him some pictures of the failure, he indicated either self repair, or take it to a dealer in Seattle. I believe Northwest Hobie is the main Seattle shop.
He stated he would get back to me.
Yes odd that a boat this old is sold new. This situation with Ballard Inflatables or any other "former dealer" likely doesn't occur too often. I only went to Ballard Inflatables because of the price they had on it. I was thinking it likely was 4 or 5 years old, but not 9!
The issue doesn't seem like an aging issue, so repairing it would make be quite happy. I do like this boat, and would like to be just another happy Hobie fisherman.

So far I'm getting a warm feeling from Hobie support.

have a look on utube under My Hobie Outback kayak scupper hole repair it shows you a easy way of repairing your scupper leaks :wink:
