That was resolved a few years ago. It was primarily inconsistent materials and hardness. We addressed some quality control issues with our supplier and made a change to the cranks wall thickness to add significant strength. Not a problem anymore.

Im glad this issue was resolved, I debated buying another drive for my 15' outback just in case this was still an issue

The rock solid arms are solid aluminum and very robust.......contact "fungunnin" from the Hobie members list. You can email him for details.
