This past weekend, the plastic piece of one of the sidekick AMAs, that inserts in into the mounting bar, came loose. Today I was planning on fixing it with some superglue. Strangely, the plastic insert would not budge so I could not take it out to apply the glue. This would be all fine and good but the part is about 30 degrees out of alignment and this will not work very well for regular use. I soaked the piece in warm water for an hour thinking it might be salt deposits. After an hour plus of soaking, the piece would not budge. My question for Hobie is if this is a warranty issue that can be addressed or am I out of luck. Looking forward to your response.... |

I had those ferules free turn or come out with the first couple uses. Very poor quality glue. Used gorilla glue to fix the first one. Spent extra time making sure it was aligned properly, but somehow got it a bit out of alignment. Now I can't get it unglued  Doesn't seem to matter much as the pivoting of the floats seems to compensate for the error. However Hobie does need to addresses this quality issue with their supplier.

We have has issues with paddles in the same way. In mass production glue is mixed in batches. That glue may begin to cure before a batch of paddles or Side Kicks are glued. Could be too little glue applied. In any case, the paddle issues are corrected. I'd imagine we are dealing with older stock of Side Kicks, but have notified engineers / suppliers of the issue again. The parts can be replaced under warranty if needed. If you want to attempt repair. Simple two part epoxy is needed. You might try heating the aluminum with butane flame. Maybe use the arm as a lever to spin the end piece off. |

Who determines "... if needed."? Any attempt to repair would probably void the warranty... then what? |

Ultimately, according to the warranty policy, we determine repair or replace. We would expect a dealer to help with a repair or file a claim for replacement. I would not hold an attempted repair against you on a warranty issue. Its a simple fix if the parts come... apart. |
