I understand Hobie has extended their warranty for the affected Adventure and Outback hulls falling between a certain serial # range.

It is my understanding the warranty has been extended to a full 4 years from date of purchase for 100% hull replacement, with a 5th and 6th year added for hull pro-ration in the event of a Drive Well mishap.

Is this True?
Where can I get a copy of this warranty document?

In order to qualify for the above mentioned Extended Warranty, you first must have installed the Mirage Drive Well Retrofit Kit. If a crack develops in the well area after that apparently you are covered under warranty for the above mentioned time.

Matt,

Will registered Adventure and Outback owners that fall between the certain serial #'s be receiving a copy of this extended warranty document?
It would sure set my mind at peace.

Billy, yesterday I was surprised to find a retrofit kit from Hobie in my mailbox. The enclosed letter states the following about the warranty:

Our normal two-year warranty coverage for Outback and Adventure hulls will be extended to four years with 100% coverage for damage to the well on kayaks in the specified range. After four years there will be pro-rated coverage on those hulls for an additional two years.

If your serial number falls within the specified range, I'm betting a kit will appear in your mailbox before long.

Bll,
Thank You for your reply.

My hull does fall in the serial # range, and I was concerned about a potential problem.
I did send my warranty card into Hobie, so I will wait until their kit arrives.

Thanks Again
Billy V

The kit mailing is on going. We have a way to go yet before all registered owners receive the kit.

Received my retrofit kit Friday and installed the fixes today. Instructions were concise yet helpful. All necessary parts were included except a mixing paddle.

By the way, when the glue instructions say "90 second setting", they mean it, don't they?

Well done and although I had no cracks or leakage after 2months(approx. 75 waterhours), the fix appears to be comprehensive.

Oh yeah.... after reading the instructions three times, it took about 20 minutes to do the repairs.

Super Glue ( the same company that makes the 90 second epoxy Included in the Kit)

Makes a 4-6 minute epoxy called (Quick Setting Epoxy Adhesive) which works much better that "Instant Adhesive". IMHO.

Please note my experience:

Unless you have everything set up Perfect, the 90 second epoxy will harden before you you set the fiberglass piece exactly where it needs to go.

My experience with the "Instant Adhesive" was an eye opener.

*While mixing the "Instant Adhesive" as directed it Hardened in 26 Seconds as I was stirring it*
I am grateful it happened that way, because it could have been disastrous.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Quick Setting Epoxy Adhesive is a better choice IMO. 4-6 minutes until Set. Not Instant.
Choose for yourself, I hope this helps.

Still waiting on the retro kit. Picked up my Turbo fins today, Noticed the mast shafts already have a flat spot on them......?

Received my retro kit in the mail this week. Too bad that my adventure Mirage Well split last weekend. I bought the boat new 6 months ago. Please note that the boat still got me home eventhough it had about 10 gallons of water in it. Called Hobie and their response was as one would want, they stand behind their product and make it right.

Sorry to hear cliffdt.
Can you post a pic of where the hull split?

Some of us are trying all we can to prevent it from happening. Maybe if we can see the area that fails some more thought can go into preventing it.

Thanks
Billy V
