With diminished funding, the local lake staff is taking advantage of volunteers to augment the daily patrol. Recently my friend Mike (sometimes known as Eagle Eye) spotted a boat apparently in distress about 1/2 mile away. He went over to the boat to see what the problem was.

Mike: Is there a problem sir?
Boater: Yes, my motor is stalled, it won't start and nobody had acknowledged my signals for help.
Mike:Throw me your bow line sir and I'll tow you back
Boater: Haha, very funny. Thanks for the offer but his boat weighs over 3000 lbs. If you could just find somebody that would be appreciated.
Mike: Sorry, I'm all that's available. Throw me a line before the wind blows you into the vegetation.
Boater: OK. I'll be very impressed if you think you can do something.

So Mike (sometimes known as Kilowatt) hauled the amazed boater back to the launch ramp against a small headwind. Here are some pics:

1. Dejected boater pondering how he will face the razzing at the ramp from his kayak tow.

2. Boater pleading not to have his picture taken.

Actually, the boater showed a good sense of humor about the whole affair and expressed his deep gratitude to the Hobie volunteers. After his first-hand demonstration of the Mirage Drive's "stump pulling" abilities, he is now considering getting one for himself. 8)

Ron,

Always awesome to see the torque the MirageDrive can produce put to work. Not a chance in H--- a paddler could do this. Simply amazing.

Thank you. Your post has inspired me. I have been thinking of purchasing a small canoe/kayak to tow behind my Outback that would carry my camping stuff (I like to camp in comfort) on my wilderness trips. I'm now ready to pull the trigger on this idea. You the man.

A group I was with was heading out to camp in kayaks and canoes and the "leader" had a canoe and was trying to pull a canoe loaded with stuff...he was struggling big time...I went over and grabbed the rope and with one finger in the loop in the string could pull it easily and faster. He had firewood, coolers, a big canopy structure and other stuff in there. I pull folks in regular kayaks (usually just hold them next to me side by side and socialize ) a lot when we have long against the wind floats to help...kinda fun

"Ron The Canoe Guy" struggling' a bit and then Hobie Rescue Revo 13.....if you are bored enough a little video below the photos I did of our lil event
