Manufacturing defect?

Hello,

I was cleaning my brand new Revo 11 for the first time today, and found out that on the outside of hull, it felt somewhat thin to the touch, right where the middle hatch is. In further inspection of the inside, after removing the bucket, I found what I believe is a repair of a possible manufacturing defect.

As can be seen in the pics, right next to the smooth area, there is a rough portion with visible scratches and bumps, which I believe are a sign of a repair after the molding process.






Is there anything to worry about? Is this considered "normal"? Is this an acceptable repair, if there was ever one?

I don't want to sound paranoid, but since the expense I made is the most I have spent on a hobby, I want to make sure I raise the issue early.

I've got a few of those on nearly every boat I own. I think there are often some "puddled" areas that they go back and grind down. As long as the outside of the hull looks good, and the area isn't unnecessarily thin, you're fine.

charro....Tom's reply is spot on.....this is a normal rotomolding condition, not a repair and nothing to worry about....get your new ride in the water!

Yep, that's quite normal.

I believe it's something to do with the way that the polymer granules are introduced into the heated moulds for the hulls.

I think the spot they chuck the stuff in is around the middle of the mould, just beneath the hatch?

There is a vent in the mold at the hatch location. It is common for a lump of plastic to form on the vent material and then drop off of the vent onto the hull bottom. Normal.

I was secretly hoping it would be so bad that I would get a 2015 hull .

On a serious note, I was concerned since I deal in a daily basis with plastic injection molding for the auto industry, where the quality requirements are extremely high.

Now back to enjoy my ride; it met my expectations and then some.

As related to an injection molding process I guess it would be like flashing which gets trimmed off or the visible flow lines at the injection points. It's cosmetic and if anything... stronger there because it's thicker.

I also have been wondering about the same marks in the general area that you have on my 2014 sport.
Thanks for posting the question for now I can relax.
I now have a 2009 outback and a 2010 outback that I sold to buy the 2014 sport. Did not find any of these marks on the two outback's so made me wonder about the marks in the sport hull.
