2015 outback.....short arms....

Help...I'm 5'1 so I have short arms...I took my outback out today for the first time..I love it but if I don't have the seat all the way down then I constantly lean over to reach the rudder lever..hurt my back once I stood up.. I see there is like a screw hole for something on the top of it. Any ideas on what my hubby can screw in it to tie a rope through for an extension??? Or is he save to drill a hole through it for a makeshift extender so I'm not leaning to the side? Any ideas?

Easy fix

I had the same issue when I added my Jackson Elite seat to my Adventure Island.

There are many threads within the Hobie Island section of this site that mention exactly what you are looking to do. I dont have the specific links, but believe many examples are listed under Haka Hiking stick, tiller handle, etc.

Essentialy you add a Ram screw ball into the top of your rudder handle. Then theres another small Ram part/connector that connects to the ball and to the extension. In my case a Targus camera extension. You could use a wooden dowel, etc.

Hopefully others will chime in with specifics/links.

After putting the Jackson seat in my Outback a year ago i found that problem of having to lean forwards all the time
to reach the rudder lever. I came up with this adapter to raise and reverse the lever. Works like a charm with a knob added. The rubber turn knob was made from from two pieces of rubber from a old drum sander set out of the junk bin, turned to shape with a drill press. Fitted to the lever with a SS 1/4 bolt.









My hand drops right down on it.

Hobie makes a knob that can be screwed on the rudder. I am 5'2 and had the same problem . My dealer added one to my Outback - I have not had a chance to try it yet, but can tell it adds just the extra height that I need.

I have the factory know extension for that hole...it raises the reach to the lever by 1 inch or so.

There is a picture in the link of the hobie riser I use it on my TI for a third party seat. You can add the knob for mor height. The hiking stick sounds best if reach is your primary issue
