While retrieving my kayak the other day, I hit a root with my cart and the entire thing collapsed underneath the kayak. I'll spare you the details of how I ended up getting back to my truck with the kayak from deep in the woods, but I made it. Initially, I just thought the cart was destroyed and nothing else. I ordered a Seattle Sports cart that looks a little tougher. When I decided to go kayaking again last Friday, I found myself in a sinking kayak. It took a while to find it, but there is a large crack inside the port side scupper hole. I contacted my Hobie dealer and he told me several things: 1) this is a very difficult repair to make given the location, 2) even if I weld it shut, it's likely to break open again, 3) it's not something covered under warranty and my 2011 is well past that point anyway, and 4) he'd contact Hobie to see if they'd give me a new hull at cost.

I know others have had the same problem. If Hobie helped you out, what options did they offer? "New" old hull? Credits toward a new boat? Has anyone be able to repair this sort of damage and have the weld last long term?

Thanks,
Fleet

Off roading is not covered by warranty as the scuppers are not designed for impacts like that. Still, contact a dealer and have them file a claim. Warranty staff can consider options.

You can likely seal the scupper using something like 3M DP8010

Would I be able to use a KC Welder to repair the crack/tear?

Here's the device I am talking about: http://www.polyvance.com/Kayak-and-Cano ... -1/KCWPRO/

Also, is my Hobie Adventure made of HDPE or LDPE?

Thanks,
Fleet

The repair material (rods) comes with the kit when we sell it. Not sure you would be able to access it enough to get a weld on it.
