Newbie here and I'm looking to buy an older Outback. Not sure of the year (trying to get the owner to find the serial #) but I'll probably go look at it this AM. $400.

This is a pic of it:

I notice it does not have rod holders. Can anyone glean any info from this pic?
How easy is it to see cracks around the drive mechanism if there are any?
I'm familiar with kayaks in general but not with Hobie's or Mirage drives. Any other tips on just what to look for?

Thanks,
John

Photo link not working for me.

If it is an Outback it should have rod holders - 4 of them !

Could it be one of the very early mirage drive yaks ? (we won't easily be able to tell without that photo !)

Hmmm, link still works for me. Somewhat moot though as I went ahead and bought the boat this AM. There are rod holders I just couldn't see them in the pic. It turns out it's a 2003 Outback; so an older model but seems to be in decent shape.
I peddled it around on the river that the owner lives on and it seems to operate normally. Could see no cracks around the mirage drive, etc.
For $300 I think I got me a good father's day gift!

Well Duh on me. I should have realized that was happening. The other thing happening is that my posts are being monitored before they're showing up so my replies are not timely. Understandable I guess as I'm new to the forum but I apologize to anyone here trying to communicate with me and me not being able to respond easily...
