Post subject:	Wake Riding Pictures
Waiting for the wind to build for some sailing, I was stalking power boats leaving the no-wake area. Admittedly, the Adventure is not the most natural wake rider. But the boat seems to be addicted to the action anyway, so who am I to deny it? This particular ride got up to 8.5 (GPS) and one of the boat passengers was gracious enough to snap some pictures. 1. Getting started (note proximity to the dock). 2. This isn't the driest kayaking activity, but ideal when you want to cool down. 3. Gotta watch where you're going! 4. The Adventure is just too long for these short intervals and likes to bury its bow -- makes it interesting though. 5. Ride's over, time to go find some wind. (Note how fast the dock disappeared!) The sailing was superb -- another great Hobie day!

They're in the cargo well in case I need them! Say, that driver looks suspiciously like one of the Hobie engineers. Maybe he's testing a new hydrofoil prototype!

Instead, I look at the "Max Speed" readout on the GPS afterwards. The pitot tube speedometer, normally quite reliable (though not necessarily accurate), can be a little misleading in a swell, since the boat's draft at the speedo location can vary from 0 to swamped, affecting the read-out. On the other hand, the cockpit camera sees everything and, despite the disclaimers, it's always gratifying to see readings like these: If I showed you one maxed out (ball hidden), you might not believe it.

Hey Ya Going Roadie. Are you going to bolt the left side pedal crank arm to the drum like you have done to the right side pedal crank...and have you had any more stripped drum hole issue's or updates on the adjuster pin ? I cant tell from the photo but is that a new right side drum since the failure or did you just bolt the crank arm down and call it good? I thought you would be out on that AI all the time anyway,have you posted some reports and photos on that yet..? Nice speed run by the way Have fun out there Kepnutz

What an eagle eye! Hobie replaced the drum and crank arm under warranty and the drive has been running like a clock lately. Actually the AI gets virtually all of my sailing time these days and the majority of the morning pedaling as well. This was about the second time the old Adventure (with sail) has been out in the last two months. It was just luck that someone came along that was willing to take some pictures of the ride -- they are much better than the typical cockpit view! This also shows how easy it is to bring the sail along in case some wind comes along later. I posted a few pics of the first AI sail here: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewt ... 127330be1c I've been just tooling around the lake. As you can see, not much going on at Hodges. The AI (fully rigged) does wake rides too, naturally. This recent one got up to 9.7 MPH; the sail adds a nice kick. Sorry about the knees, but sailing, steering and trying to stay on the wake while photographing is a bit taxing for my limited abilities. To make matters worse, the little speedo ball is hiding behind the red cap, so for all you can tell, the boat's just sitting there! Here's a wake from this morning getting up to 9.1 MPH. But, no wind, no sail -- just the AI - Adventure mode.

Hey Roadie Thats some hard pedaling you got going there.. I really like your new red AI also. I think it would be tough not to use it all the time instead of your Tandem and Adventure. Have you had any troubles with it yet..? Have you done any mods to the rigging etc. etc. ? Our friends just bought a new "oasis" tandem and we went out with them on their first trip last Sunday to our local watering hole.... They did fantastic out there and we all had a good afternoon of it putting in around 13 miles round trip with this one stop to stretch a leg. kepnutz

I still want one, now.... BTW my wife said as soon as I sell 3 bikes, her canoe is sold, we can get 2 Adventures. Anyone want to buy/trade? 1984 Vitus CarboneSept Plus 56cm (road bike 17#) If you weigh over 150# do not ride this bike. I have many of the original parts too. 1990 Bridgestone MB0 49cm (Mtn bike 24#) Lightweight MTB NO suspension/shocks 1999 RANS Rocket Adjustable 5'5"-6'6" (recumbent 30#) Lounge chair w/ wheels. NEW front shock. Plush ride. Low gears. LOW miles. I love these bikes, but due to a neck injury can never ride them again. These will go on Craigslist next week. I will post an update. Hey RR, I'm beginning to get a ittle worried about ya--you're taking this kayaking thing way too seriously! When are you going to get out and have some FUN with your yaks? Anyway, great pics about some great adventures--thanks for the updates! I know, I know--it's a tough job, but somebody has to do it... Best, Dick
