Kayak Rack Challenge: Traded my Jeep for a Tundra & purchased the Thule 421 Xsporter truck rack. Nice rack, but my old Thule 877XT & 878XT Kayak carrier, which fit the Jeep on square bars, does not mount on the 421. The 421 is a wider bar. Any ideas how to make the 2 fit the 421 Xporter? :?

Build an adapter.

- Get some flat plate or angle iron, something with some thickness to minimize bend.
- Cut into appropriate length pieces to span the Xsporter bars with enough room to put bolts through front & back.
- Mate two pieces and drill holes in each end for new mounting hardware.
- Take one piece and drill holes to line up with the old holes on the 878.
- Use carriage bolts to attach plate to 878, with bolt heads facing down & nuts on top.
- Take strips of old inner tube and glue to cover carriage bolt heads. Plus it will keep your adapters from slipping.
- Install.
