Hi Guys
This is a technique I use, it might be handy.
If I dont trust the well nuts for bolting on side kicks or rod holders etc in places where your arms won't reach inside then try this.
Drill the holes for your bolts. I always use
extra long 3/16 or 5 mm stainless bolts with nylock nuts and washers but diameter its not critical. Drop fishing line down the hole, shake it down the hull to a convenient hatch where you can get your hand to it and pull out the end. Thread on the appropriate washer and tie the tip of the extra long bolt to the line. Now gently pull the bolt back through the hull and up out of the drilled hole. Its now sticking out of the hull the wrong way but this is a good thing, not a problem as you can now slide your fitting onto the bolt and in position. Clamp some multigrips to the bottom of the bolt and start screwing down the nylock nut, once the nut is far enough down swap the mulitgrips to the top of the bolt and continue tightening the nut all the way down the the fitting untill everying is firm. Now take the offending extra long bit of bolt firmly in your multigrips and bend it back and forth untill it breaks off flush at the top of the nylock nut. File off any offenting sharp dags and your rod holder or side kick arma fitting is firmly in place. The bolts are upside down but the job is, tidy, strong and can be done anywhere on a hull without well nuts.
I would show you a picture of my Outback with Ram Tubes bolted just behind the seat in the side trays but photos, computers and I are not good friends.
Cheers
Scotty
