I'm planning another camping trip to IR-43 the week of March 12th - 19th. Anyone interested in joining me is more than welcome to get in touch. There's plenty of room on either side of the island, and abundant marine wildlife to enjoy.

Marc K. will be out on the weekend and plans on bringing as many of his children as will fit on his boat, and my wife Laura will join us on the weekend as well.(She's still not convinced that they're not any mermaids out there).

I'm also very excited to announce that Appel Painting Co. Inc. has officially adopted IR-43 - More on that to come in the future.

Hi Ron.

We launch from the Round Island boat ramps. See http://www.sunfunguide.com/sunfun/roundislandparkwest.html. These ramps are only < 1 mile away from IR-43. Very convenient.

I plan to launch on Friday afternoon, March 15 and stay 2 nights. We will return home on Sunday afternoon.

You are invited to join us. Let us know what you want to do.

I was up in sebastion and stopped by that ramp.i have 1.6 ft on each side of my boat to launch..it appears its a long paddle to get out of it.Since you all here know better how far do i have to paddle to get out into open water.my boat and myself dont like paddleing much.lol... At close to 7 hundred lbs.We are very interested in trying this weekend out.We have camped alot but never with a boat involved.

Rob,

If you don't have a small motor, can you borrow one for the weekend? You don't need much horsepower. A small trolling motor should be fine.

not really.the motor wo
uld be easy but the bracket for it is another story.how far is the canal going thru the trees before u come to open water.course with right winds I might be able to sail out.

I just went out there a few weeks ago. It was about a quarter mile paddle to the channel. However, it's pretty shallow outside the channel. Depending on the winds, it could be difficult staying in the deep water of the narrow channel. I didn't stay completely in the channel, but I was okay (barely) with my Tandem Island at high tide. On the way back in, I probably didn't paddle more than a tenth of a mile back to the ramp. The winds gave me a direct shot through the channel and helped turn into the cove as well. I just needed to help through some of the bends.

Capt Rob,

Take a look at this web site for the Oslo Rd. Boat Ramp in Vero Beach. I sailed past it on my last camping trip, and it looks like it might be a better spot for launching your boat. The channel is deep enough for motor boats and leads straight out to the Intercoastal. Once you're safely out, turn hard to starboard and head South, you'll not be that far North of IR-43 where we'll be camping. Hope to see you there.

Hi Sun-E. I'd like to make it but it looks like I'll be out of town most of that time:(. I'll let you know if our plans change. BTW I got the casting platform done. I'm going to try to get out with the coldfront this weekend for some flyfishing. I'll try to get some pics.

Hi Travis,
Well... we'll miss you but I understand - perhaps next time.
I'll take some pictures and post it all after we get back, especially the chicken barbecue and fire roasted corn-on-the-cob dinner party on Saturday night .
