I've seen several parts boats for sale on craigslist over the winter. I'd put up a "wanted" post on Craigslist in Raleigh, Eastern NC and Wilmington. I bet you can find one pretty quick.

I actually know a few people who have some spare hulls laying around, so if they still have those when mine are dead, I'll make them an offer.

Very Impressive! the picture of the two of you standing on the tramp flexing the muscles, with the port hull busted just in or around the front pylon with the mast still standing is classic! Thats a good war story.
The painting of the tip of your mast red is just clever and common sense. I might consider that with a floresent red/orange paint.
I have a sail tube just like that, it came with the rig on the trailer, my end caps are different, but I like how you did yours.

Thank you! The picture is actually of a few friends at work, they had been racing a work boat, had that happen. I believe we used that bit of hull as the trophy. Not that I don't have any good stories of my own from camp, back in 2011 I was out on a boat with another girl who worked there and two little campers, flying the hull, when we hear this huge ripping noise. turns out the shroud had decided to rip that little section of hull off, the shroud attached where my right hand is in the picture. I have to say, Hobies have some pretty good flotation in them.

You should try the mast tip painting, I like having that, I just make sure it doesn't stick out past the rudders a whole lot when towing, to keep everything at the same distance from other cars. The tube is great to have, I'm all about some things to speed up the amount of time I have to spend at a boat ramp.

New Shoes!

got the trailer some new tires and wheels from etrailer. Now I can drive highways speeds, no more 55 mph for this guy.

I'm taking my boat out to Vista Point at Jordan Lake on Monday, if any local (or not local) people feel like bringing their boats down and sailing as well.

took the boat out today, flew the hull a little bit, not quite as much as we were able to last week, but didn't have anything catastrophic break either trip, only the paracord holding my righting line got worn through by the rudder, here's a bad pic of how it was set up, guess i'll need to find something better now. maybe 2 pieces of paracord would do it...

we also realized that the forestay had disconnected while we were out sailing, that was worrying. I'm pretty sure my crew had just forgotten to tighten the shackle completely. oh well, that's why I bring extra shackles.

Sure, glad to see someone's watching this,

That is exactly where I got my inspiration from, except, the Deer Tick cover, not the original.

I broke down and drilled a hole through the hull lip for the righting line. Tie a stopper knot to keep it from pulling through. Was painfull but I just did not dig having it hooked to the rudder pins.

That does sound a bit painful to do, not that mine hasn't already had a hole there on the starboard side :roll: I'll probably just use some more paracord and check on it more often, keep things simple.

+1 also... Ours came that way. Thru each hole a short piece of line knotted on the hole end and a loop on the other side that the Stretch Righting line bowlines onto.

I have not, but now i'm going to have to, thanks for pointing me towards that, not that i'll be doing much racing with my boat, but i might one day make it out with some cat sailors from the forum now.
