Hello All,
I'm a newbie to Hobie sailing and sailing in in general. I recently picked up an 18 after listening to a 16 sailor buddy of mine tell me how much fun he's been having blasting up and down the lake all summer. I'm in the DFW area and will probably be doing most of my sailing on lake Grapevine.

My first question( of many to come I'm sure) is about the rudder system. I'm doing an overhaul of the rudders and when I removed them I did not mark the castings(L&R). Does it matter which side they go on? Should the rake adjustment screw go outboard or inboard?

Thanks,
Glenn

Lower castings, it doesn't matter.

Upper castings, tiller arms should angle in towards the center of the boat.

I'm near the end of my second season wiht the H18...what a blast....

fwiw, a couple of free resources, along with this forum, that helped me a bunch answer a ton of questions in terms of rigging, setup, and sailing the H18.

1) H18 user manual - www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/H18&SX_Manual.pdf

2) Hobie U 2002 - www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/HobieU.pdf
