The spin pole attaches to the crossbar, not the striker. I initially used the Tiger bracket, a two rivet piece. It worked for 1 1/2 seasons and then wallowed out. This weekend I installed the bracket Hobie makes for the 18. I had hoped to not use that bracket as it prevents removing the tramps without removing it first. It is a much better application. The Tiger bracket is designed to be affixed to a flat surface which the 18 does not have. The different bracket sticks the pole out further which made my bridles too short, etc. Took me 3 hrs to rig the boat on Sat.

I use a Tiger mid-pole snuffer system, for the money its the best available. The '08 design is better than earlier systems and is what I would suggest. I run a separate halyard and tack line, a continuous line can be used as well. I drilled two small holes(one each side) in the bridle tangs for the spin bridles the attach to. I tie the side bridles to the bridle wire fork.

The boat is on the beach where it belongs. I took some pics of the mast tang and bail I can post if needed. Sounds like you need pole to crossbar and bridle attachment pics now. I'll be at the coast this weekend as well and will take any needed pics then. I need to take some of it rigged and under spin for me as well.

ncmbm,

Pictures would be much appreciated! Did you buy your Tiger mid-pole snuffer new or used?

I bought it new. Actually, State Farm bought it as a replacement for the end pole system I broke. At first I wanted the end pole setup because I thought it was easier. I don't think there is that much difference between the systems regarding use but the mid pole stays out of the waves which is better for me and allows me to run the pole lower.

I will get some pics this weekend

I can tell you that running a Nacra 6.0 NE chute (400 sq ft?) to the masthead on an aluminum mast still produced a LOT of deflection... Didn't do that but once :-)

ncmbm,

Are you running a stock tiger spinnaker pole and if so, did you keep it at stock length or did you trim it down? If you cut it, what length? Also, if you wouldn't mind taking the time to measure, what is the hoist height of your halyard pully from the base of the mast to the center of the pully?

Thanks,

Tom

ncmbm,

Also, you stated in a previous post that you mounted your sheet blocks somewhat forward of the side shrouds mounted to the hulls. Would you mind providing the measurement between your shrouds and the blocks?

Thanks again,

Tom
