Post subject:  Better than stock replacement sails for my H-18M

I have the stock yellow Hobie 18 sail set with the silk screened (blue, red, probably orange, purple) panel in the center . The jib is junk, it looks half decent, but it was left rigged on the boat too many times, by it's former owner and is a rag compared to the mainsail.
I know I can just buy a new white jib from Hobie, not sure, but maybe a solid yellow one from them, and just let it go at that. I, of couse, would love to buy a new one that was well cut and matched perfectly,,but I don't think that they even offer that anywhere. I just don't think I'm going to be satisfied with much of anything that I find used
I keep seeing posts from some of you guys that talk about running what must be aftermarket mylar and/or squaretop mains. I never saw hobie offer anything in mylar for the reqular 18. Am I missing something by buying new stock sails for this boat. I haven't entered this boat in a race in 10 years, and if I did it would probably be in a mixed fleet at my local lake..those guys are way overwhelmed with just trying to find a ballpark portsmouth for everyone, that they would NEVER care about whether my boat had a factory jib. I have been sailing long enough to appreciate a good set of sails that pulls together, when they are properly trimmed and just want to make sure that when I spend the money, that that's what I get.

If you are not concerned about racing it OD then put what you want on it. Yes, there are better sails than stock H18. Its about what you want and how you want it too look. There are many good sail lofts that can build you a new set of sails. I think the H18 looks great with a squaretop on it!

Calvert built me a wonderful square top. There are others out there too. I keep an almost now pinhead for racing.
