Post subject:  1993 old Mylar technology sails--what to do ?

I must bring the topic up again. I recently bought a hardly used Mardi Gras sail suit for my SX18. It was also from 1993 like my boat and looks like just from sitting through the years the plastic has detached from the cloth. Matt Miller already mentioned that was old mylar technology. The sails were bought at a reasonable price so I´m not too picky and knew what to expect. Question is what do I do now can I somehow salvage the sails while the plastic is only detached not ripped apart ? If I buy new sails what would be the difference with the old technology?

Post subject:  Mylar Laminate

Mylar Laminate breaking down. There have been several different suppliers of mylar materials over the years. I don't think we have seen that issue (Mylar delamination) for many years now, so if you bought new sails now, it should not be a problem.

I don't believe there is a fix for delaminated mylar, but the sails will still work.

Post subject:  Is they mylar detached along a sewn edge?

Hi Al-
My H17 sail/ Neil Pryde has a section on a lower panel where the mylar "coating" is separating from the material (dacron?) underneath. It is along the trailing edge where it was stitched. Right now about 12 inches is peeling away. I don't know if I should try to find tape or what.
