Ok, I read the write ups the mid pole fiberglass snuffer and the soft snuffer. What is everyone using and why? It seams to me the soft snuffer would be better since you can carry the spinnaker longer and also if you need to dial up and douse the spin in a hurry you should be able to.

The Tiger and all the Hobie Cat Europe snuffers have gone to the mid pole snuffer with soft bag. This is a hard glass front end with attached bag. The full length glass tubes were heavier, more fragile and harder to transport.

The Tiger I bought new in Oct-Nov 04 came with a mid pole hard fiberglass snuffer so the one you are talking about must be a reletively new system! Isn't the soft snuffer offered by Hobie as an accessary mounted at the end of the pole?

Relatively new, yes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the fiberglass one. The negative issues are for us, the transport damage we incur with the glass ones. The soft ones have a front end just like what you have, but the fiberglass ends just aft of the snuffer opening (12" back?) and a flange was added to attach the soft bag aft of that. More compact, easier to freight around. Works the same.

Thanks for the info! Your problems with the fibreglass snuffer is the same problem I have. doesn't fit in the cat box, I don'e want to tie it to the tramp because it is so weak it probably wont last over a long tow, that goes for tieing it to the trailer also. When is this new snuffer going to be available as an accessory? Hopefully before the worlds!!!!!!!

You guys are great! Just the idea of having a support site like this is great. I'll get ahold of my dealer and get one of those snuffers. Are the rummors true that you are going to starte producing Tigers here in the US?

I use an endpole snuffer that is a fiberglass triangle rounded on the back and accepts a light weight bag for the spinnaker. The dimensions are about the same size as that spinnaker pole all the way around, One side follows the pole and the other the starboard pole stay. The advantage is that I do not have a tack line, hemce fewer lines on the boat. Eileen and I like it a lot and would not put a midpole system on. Most of the boats around here sail with the midpole.

We still would like to produce the Tigers here one day but any plans of doing it in the near future have stalled.
