I brought a used Tiger 10 months ago and I have had problems with rudder aligments and since there is only 2 Tigers in Brazil it is dificult to get information about tunning. My problem is that i am having a little weather helm (which i like)in one direction and sailing the same way but on a a diferent tack I have lee helm that starts slowly until it gets very dangerous, specialy on a reach. My mast is slightly raked backwards and the cross bar that conects the the two rudders is screw in at the
> maximum. I measured the Leading edge of the rudders and the Trailing edge and the back distance is about 0,5 cm bigger than the leading edge as to give a small toe in. I raked back the rudder that is giving my lee helm and it improved a little bit ( but still i having lee helm) but what worries me is that the rudders rake should be equal and not different as they are now because if i rake them equal to the rudder that gives me weather helm on the other tack the boat goes to leeward to fast to control. The lower rudder casting of the rudder that is giving me lee helm is new but the plastic cam is not looking as tight as the old one even though i gave enough tension on the plunger. Are the lower castings the same for each side? are the rudders the same for the for the left and the right castings ?
thank you for your help :?:

Fernando,
you need to check whether your rudders are straight. Lay each flat on a plain glass surface and measure how many millimeters the tip of the rudder is off the glass surface.
Turn the rudder and measure again. It should be the same distance. If not, and you can also see that, the rudders might not be straight.
