I know this has been asked before but didnt find it so my ?'s are dose hobie still use the flopper on the main hook? if not when did they stop using it? (That would help date my mast ) I thought I read somthing about hooking and un hooking the main with out the flopper on the mast, how is that done? thanks for any help to a new H 18 owner............Jay

Hobie stopped using the flopper on the H18 when they switched to the comptip mast in the mid/late '80s (I think they may have used the flopper on some of the first comptips, but if so, it went away very quickly). Simple reason, it's not necessary and makes hooking the halyard ring more difficult. There are instructions for latching and unlatching the halyard hook in the FAQ section. There have also been numerous discussions regarding the topic on this forum, you should be able to find these using the search function.

You can just grind(I use an angle grinder or a dremel tool) the flopper off. It is much easier to get the main up with out it.

Thanks for the help, I see where I went wrong, went to the H18/sx section then the FAQ instead of going to the FAQ on the main board index. I plan to remove the flapper next spring when I get the boat out ......Jay
