Does anyone know the differences between the Spinnaker Pole and Hardware kit for a Hobie 18sx and Hobie Miracle 20? I am looking for a Hobie 18sx spinnaker setup. I found a Hobie 20 spinnaker pole and hardware kit, but am not sure I can use it on my 18sx. |

If it's a Hobie kit then I think the spin pole is a 2 piece aluminum number that is the same for both boats (correct me if I'm wrong Matt). The Hobie instructions for rigging a chute on an 18SX call for chopping the pole down to 8.5'. There is no class rule says you have to do this and I would cut it to 12.5' (at 8.5 the slot is way too small for the chute to breath). The wire pole stays in the kit would likely be different - but I rigged mine with vectran. The sheet and halyard lengths will be slightly different. With hindsight I wish I hadn't bought a rigging kit - I'd have been better off just getting a pole and rigging it myself. For example, Harken ratchematic blocks are great for running a spin sheet, but you'll not get these in a kit. Spinlocks are great for spin halyards - but kits come with the standard swivel cleat. The two kits are virtually the same. |
