Post subject:  H18 anchor plates

I have seen the posting from Matt regarding the patch to the front anchor plate indent to more evenly distribute the loads. I just picked up a 1986 18 and it appears to have the glass reinforcements. Does it still require the installation of the anchor plates? If so, do they only need to be installed on the inside of the hull or both sides?

Anchor plates and patches...

The 1986, if without the plates, is likely without the new patches that are suggested. Unless someone did it in the field. The plates are highly suggested and should be installed on all four corners, inboard and outboard of the hulls if possible. Rears would require installing access plates in the stern deck.

The boat already has about a 4" section of extra glass at the anchor plate indent similar to pics at this link
http://www.thebeachcats.com/modules.php?set_albumName=H18-anchor-plates&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.phpCan I just add the 12" patch over this or does the 4" piece need to be sanded down?

Thanks,
Jason

4" Patches are a problem. That boat needs glass and plates.

Post subject:  Excuse my ignorance

I just purchased an 84 Hobie 18, I have not had one for ten years or so. I assume that the plates and glass you all are refering to are at the crossbars. What is the concern for the additional material and how can I tell if it has been done.

Collin,
I will reply to this on the TCDYC website so that Chris (flumpmaster) can chime in on this. He has experience with massive hull failure on his old 18 Mag. The patch is needed at the front crossbar to hull connections, but actually needs to extend past that.

Post subject:  One last question

Not that I have read more post I see the problem. My only question is are the 84 models also subject to this issue.
