I sail a Hobie 18 SX and I use it for daysailing and weekend trips. The boat will need some reworking around the daggerboard wells. I started wondering would it be a good idea to replace the small round inspection hatches with bigger, square form ones. Alternatively, one could install a pair of new hatches behind the daggerboard wells. This would make better use of the storage space within hulls and also make inspecting the wells easier. Even small amounts of gear (a tent, a couple of sleeping bags, case of beer) seem to be on the way when stored on the trampoline.
Any comment? Is my idea good or does it harm the rigidness of the boat?
