Ok. so I buy this Hobie 18 to cruise around on on local lakes thinking I'll get some sun and relax. Then I take the boat to this mountain lake in Cle Elum WA. where there is according to locals "an amazing amount of wind" and Oh My God! Whitecaps on whitecaps! I have never gone so fast on a Hobie, ever!! I could have easily pulled a water skier (it seemed) and I was keeping up with planed out jet skis. The not so good part was I almost pitch-poled three times and scared the sh@# out of my non-sailing friends. They wanted off the boat after several minutes- which was kinda cool as they think they are real tough high speed freaks. Anyway, its great to be sailing again and going so fast with such a small fuel bill. You guys have a great forum here! -Dave M. |

Yep. That's catamaran sailing. Nothing better than apparent wind! Do it sometime when you need four 180 pound friends on board, cause you already have let out the mainsheet! It's a riot. Nothing better than racing either and doing the same! Or, add a spinnaker and reduce the drag under the water -- hang on, you ain't seen nothing yet! It's called a Tiger and that feels a lot like flying an airplane when going down wind. |

Yup, put two guys at 450 lbs out on the trapeze, an 190 lbs skipper and ride the wind and waves. Get that Caddy ride on the old Hobie 18. I liked my 16 and love almost everything about my H-18. |

When I first upgraded to the H18 I think the term I used to describe a nice reach with some serious beef on the wire was "Hair on Fire Fast". That explains the bald spot on teh top of my head |
