single hand

ive got a 16 and am considerin an upgrade.. can you solo right a 18. Im using the side stay extenders on the 16 and they work ok. Can the same be installed on the 18? Ive not had luck with the bags but will consider if thats the only option. thanks

I have a friend and fellow competitor that weighs about 290 pounds that single rights. However, he also uses a righting bag. It takes him a while to get back up though. I would never attempt it.

some sort of righting pole seems to be the best idea for solo righting an 18. Search the catsailor.com forum for this topic.

Id like to see some of those close up pics of the windsurfer mast that they adapt to the bottom to "right"

From what I have seen of these it looks like the pole will fit under the gunnel to keep the pole from sliding toward the top of the boat. Then a line is attached to the end of the pole and the forward crossbar. Then you just stand or hang on teh end of the pole. The pole moves your CG far enough out so you have more righting moment.

Do a search on the catsailor.com forum on this subject. One of the inventors of the easy right has discussed this.

I just bought a H18 SX with wings and I found there is the side stay extenders on it.

Though I do not try to use this, but I think the previous owner did use it to right the boat.
