how did you go about compressing the spring on your 7:1 standup block? The flippin' thing is giving me fits!!! I'm having a super-hard time getting the eye strap through.

Compress the spring with a pair of zip ties, one across from the other. Then assemble the block and cut the zip ties when you're done.

Brilliant!! Very much appreciated, SM

Hi, beautiful boat... you'll have the rock star retro built like a tank, cadillac cruising boat well into the year 2045!

But my main questions are:
- What size stand-up boot are you using on the jib blocks? (harken small?)
- Do you have a spring under the boot?

Thx,
Robert.

No spring, believe they are the small boots. I need to add a spacer or a spring though, not quite stiff enough for my liking.

Where did you find the rivit backing washers you used for the tramp tracks?

I couldn't find anything commercially available that was suitably curved either so I made a die and punched them out myself.

Now that your boat is all assembled, any chance you'd be willing to part with the die you used to make the tramp track rivet backing washers?

Thanks,
Steve

Well, not only do I think he will get it, but I think it's a pretty reasonable price. Crazy, I know, but a new H16 is what, $12k? And there are no more new H18s. And it has wings. Sure, you have to decide that it is a 'new' H18 but if you are looking for that mix of performance and durability (in that size), what else is there on the market?

One more thing guys.... you may wish to know that Caleb is a highly technical guy. CAD/CAM, machine shop, the works.
I've visited lots of Hobie folks over the years, and I've never met anyone other than Matt B and Mark Modderman who were so clued in as to how things work, and how they can be improved. Not that it helps, as he has left sailing and is now into aviation.

If Caleb assembled/re-built this Hobie 18, it's more than perfect..... it's a collector's piece.

I think a used WildCat is more expensive.

Happy New Year to all.
